Put On A Show

What: We are in major fashion mode right now, thanks to HONOLULU Fashion Week coming up next week. We have art and style on the mind at all times—even in our down time, which is why we’re heading over to the Bishop Museum’s World of Wearable Art exhibit this weekend. This New Zealand-based display of wearable masterpieces comes from the winners of the annual World of Wearable Art contest, which draws incredible textile, wood, even plastic artists from around the world. The result? Crazy, imaginative, stunning clothes.
Where: 1525 Bernice St.
Details: Call 847-3511 for more information.

Hair Today

What: The Star Wars movie comes out in December, so we’re already trying to figure out which character to dress as for the premiere. OK, mostly kidding, but turns out it wouldn’t be as far a stretch as you’d think for some of the famous, more out-of-this-world characters. Take Chewbacca, the endearing monster of the Millennium Falcon crew: Apparently, his hair care routine is pretty similar to ours, as we learned in this Refinery 29 post. In fact, we could probably learn a thing or two. On tomorrow’s agenda: testing out some Chewie-inspired ‘dos.

Eat

This Takes the Cupcake

What: You’ve seen them on Sex and the City. You’ve seen them on your friends’ Instagrams. Now you can finally taste them yourself. Magnolia Bakery, the New York-based confectionary famous for its almost-too-cute-to-eat cupcakes just opened its Honolulu location in Ala Moana Center this week. Other goodies you can pick up include a new line of chocolate bars and even some savory items, such as sandwiches and salads. We dished on all the sweet goodness in Biting Commentary.
Where: Ala Moana Center, Ewa Wing
Details: Call 942-4132 for more information.

Attend

Print and Proper

What: Talk about a cool way for you and the kids to share your two loves: crafts and shopping. MORI by Art and Flea at Ward Village is offering a kids’ printmaking workshop this Saturday. This hands-on activity has a monsters theme, perfect for aspiring little printmakers who want to get imaginative as they carve and print. Watch them get their hip artist mode on, learn a little about printmaking yourself and, of course, shop through MORI’s collection of local designs and brands. Win win!
When: Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: Ward Village Shops, across from Dairy Queen
Details: $40. Register at artandflea.com.

Shop

In Full Bloomingdale’s

What: Ever since you saw mermaid Daryl Hannah having the shopping day of your dreams at Bloomingdale’s in Splash, your heart has pined for a day in the department store. Yesterday, those dreams came true. (Kind of—there are still no mermaids.) The first-ever Bloomingdale’s opened in Ala Moana Center, and, from one shopping lover to another, it’s everything you’ve ever wanted: three floors of top-tier brands, from Versace to Carven, adorably decorated nooks for shoes and accessories, a fine-jewelry department that will make your head swim and a beauty section complete with aestheticians. Time to dive in.
When: Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Ala Moana Center
Details: Call 955-9517 for more information, and check out our impression of the store here.

Watch

There Can Be Only None

What: Funny man Aziz Ansari captured our funny bones in shows such as Parks and Recreation, so we were beyond excited to see him shine in his very own series on Netflix called Master of None. The plot follows Ansari’s character, Dev, a 30-year-old actor trying to make his way through life in New York City. Dev’s inability to make decisions make his dating and professional adventures all the more difficult—and comical. Once we saw this trailer, it was sold: weekend booked.
Where: netflix.com
Details: Also, this adorable trending story about Ansari and his parents has us feeling all the feels.
