Mommy’s Dearest

When: Mother’s Day totally snuck up on you this year and you are freaking out. We have two pieces of advice for you: 1) Read our emails! Earlier this week we had tons of sweet gift and craft ideas. 2) Calm down. You still have two days and, with The Cut Collective Mother’s Day sale tomorrow, you’d do yourself a favor to wait one more. Shop Ten Tomorrow’s spring collection (Mom will love these romantic, watercolor florals) alongside Cut faves Rumi Murakami and Allison Izu. Joy Graham of Pure Joy Hawai‘i will be there for all your accessorizing needs with her beautiful jewelry, as well. Plus, enjoy complimentary mimosas and light appetizers.
When: Saturday, May 9, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: 2800 Woodlawn Drive
Details: Bring Mom and you could both enter to win a designer gift bag valued at $200. Just think of it as a little Mother’s Day gift to yourself.

Bite Me

What: The best part of working in an office? It’s mutually understood that if anyone goes to the Big Island, they are bringing all y’all back some ’onolicious omiyage. Definitely Two Ladies mochi and Punalu‘u Bake Shop malassadas at the very least. You still haven’t figured out how to smuggle Nori’s Saimin or Hilo Burger Company goodies over, but you’re working on it. In the meantime, purchase your tickets to next weekend’s A Bite of Hilo event. For less than the price of a plane ticket, indulge in delicious creations from the above, as well as from Big Island Candies, Kulana Foods, Hawaiian Island Gourmet and more. Goodies include strawberry mochi, loco moco, pipikaula poke and chicken hekka, to name a few. Talk about a mini staycation.
When: Saturday, May 16, 5–10 p.m.
Where: Pagoda Restaurant
Details: $100, eventbrite.com. $50 of ticket price is tax deductible.

You Are My Sunshine

What: So it turns out there are quite a few things we didn’t know about fashion uber-icon-slash-genius Tom Ford. (Like, apparently he wanted to be a cosmetic surgeon at one point!) One thing we—and the entire world—knows pretty well, however, is that he has impeccable taste. His latest stylish success is the brand new Soleil Collection for Tom Ford Beauty. Think golds and warm pinks, perfect for rising temperatures and just in time for summer fun. At Neiman Marcus’ Soleil Collection Event, you can check out all the gorgeous new shades and test drive them with a free makeup application.
When: Today, Friday, May 8 and tomorrow, Saturday, May 9
Where: Cosmetics, Level 1, Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center
Details: The collection pieces run from $36–$95.

Once You Pop

What: Here at Lei Chic, we love ourselves a good pop-up shop—and we see a good number of them. But this week’s Pacifikology event, which kicked off Wednesday and will run through May 17, is a step above your average pop-up. With contemporary design, art, fashion and accessories, this event features 20—yes, 20—artisans from around the Pacific. Head over to Paradise Park in Mānoa to shop for original paintings, vintage and Island fashion, ceramics, sculpture and jewelry.
When: Through May 17, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Paradise Park, 3737 Mānoa Road
Details: Call 782-6000 for more information.

Where Art Thou?

What: It’s going to be an extra creative weekend. Anyone feeling inspired? Maybe it’s just us, or maybe it’s events like the Hawai‘i Culture and Retail Association’s Art Showcase happening tonight. Titled “Mo‘olelo of Art,” the event will feature local creatives (such as Rube Aira Jr., David Friedman, Robert King Andia and Kamaka Pili) in the fields of jewelry, fine art, textile apparel and more selling their beautiful wares. While you’re there, enjoy pūpū, drinks and live music from Uncle Walter Kawai‘ae‘a.
When: Friday, May 8, 6–9 p.m.
Where: 243 Portlock Road
Details: To learn more about the HCRA, visit hcra.info.

Eat

To Thai For

What: We’ve just found our favorite Friday night destination. At Plumeria Beach House, the restuarant is having a “Port of Call” event each week, with a new country- or city-themed buffet featuring delicacies from those locations. This week’s theme? Oh, just one of our favorite exotic locales ever: Thailand. On the menu is green papaya salad, Thai beef salad, wok-seared eggplant, vegetable curry, steamed crab legs and an entire pad thai station. Did we just die and go to Southeast Asian heaven?
When: Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Where: Plumeria Beach House, Kāhala Hotel and Resort
Details: $55 per adult and $27.50 for children. Call 739-8760 for more information or book at opentable.com.
