Weekend Picks - March 11, 2010
Lei Chic's guide to the weekend's best events.

Bella of the Ball
What: The best part of prom was picking the dress. Relive the teen rite of passage as a personal shopper to underprivileged girls at the Bella Boutique. Volunteers help set up the event and assist girls in selecting the perfect gently worn dresses, accessories, makeup and shoes.
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Cupola Theatre, Honolulu Design Center, 1250 Kapi‘olani Blvd.
Details: For more info, click here.

Food for Thought
What: Learn tricks and tips from Executive Chef Russell Siu at 3660 On the Rise's bimonthly cooking class. On the menu: Cream of asparagus soup, cheese puffs, tomato and truffle mozzarella cheese, medallion of salmon with garlic parsley butter, Kahuku corn relish, and a chocolate amaretto truffle tart. Enjoy each delicious course with a wine pairing.
When: Tonight, 6 p.m.
Where: 3660 Waialae Ave., Kaimuki
Details: $65 per person. For reservations, call 808.737.1177. For more information, click here.

Rack to the Future

What: Indulge in a little group time travel at the Future Paradise Fashion Show featuring local designer Matt Bruening. Get futuristic with the motion graphics, a DJ spinning house music and hot new styles coming down the runway.
When: Saturday, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: Next Door, 43 N. Hotel St., Chinatown
Details: $10 at the door, $5 in advance. More info here.

Call a Spade a Spade
What: Get out your old 90’s flannel, stand in line and score seats for SNL-alum David Spade’s comedy show. If you’re lucky, you’ll sit behind a fat guy in a little coat.
When: Tickets go on sale Friday for the April 29 show.
Where: Blaisdell Concert Hall
Details: Tickets are $35, $45, $55 available through Blaisdell Box Office or Ticketmaster

Risqué Business
What: It didn’t look three inches too short at the store… but that’s why that amazingly expensive designer dress never debuted at the office Christmas party this year. Lucky for you that hot number will fit right in at the Sexy Second Saturday Cocktail Party.
When: Saturday, 9:30 p.m.
Where: Longhi’s, Ala Moana Center
etails: Click here for more info.

Irish I Could Eat This Every Day
What: It’s the only time of the year you want corned beef, and you’re going to get it. Why schlep all the way to the Irish bars when you could go to Auntie Pasto’s or Dixie Grill and get their one-day-only specials?
When: Wednesday, March 17, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Dixie Grill, 99-016 Kamehameha Highway, Aiea, and Auntie Pasto’s restaurants, 1099 S. Beretania St., Honolulu, and Kunia Shopping Center, Waipahu.
Details: For more info visit Auntie Pastos or Dixie Grill.
