Six reasons to do something this weekend
Weekend Picks - July 18, 2013
Thanks a Brunch
What: Drive over to the Windward side to experience the debut of Kailua Brunch Fest, an outdoor event with live music and delicious, brunch-centric food. The entire family can load up on waffle cakes from Watcha Fillin', pancakes from Cinnamon's (left), omelets by Mark's Specialties, and more, then indulge in massages, face painting, and a keiki craft booth.
When: Sunday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: 419 Uluniu St. (next to Walgreens)
Details: Full lineup posted here.
Play the Field
What: If you've ever wanted to roam the field of Aloha Stadium, now's your chance. Sunset at the Stadium will offer a slew of fun activities, like parachutes and obstacle courses courtesy of Hawaii Speed and Quickness, and Xtreme Fun Keiki Zone's rock wall challenge (you can also just toss the ol' pigskin around). Then, at 7:30 p.m., camp out at the 50-yard line and watch Oz the Great and Powerful play on the 80-foot video board.
When: Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
Where: Aloha Stadium
Details: Free admission, $5 parking per car. Turnstile Gate 4 opens at 5:30 p.m. No food and drink, except water, is allowed on the field. Click here for more.
Come Out Fighting
What: Help Fighting Eel celebrate the grand opening of its Waikiki store (again, though this time the party's actually in-store) with a fashion show, food by Rakuen, and 15 percent off all day long. Call the store at (808) 738-9295 for details.
When: Saturday, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Fashion show at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Fighting Eel, Royal Hawaiian Center
Also: Stop by Fighting Eel's Kailua store this Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., for 10 percent off By Chari's trunk show featuring body chains, bezeled gem rings, crystal necklaces, and more. 629 Kailua Rd., Suite 130.
State of Bliss
What: Bliss Lau is certainly busy this weekend! In addition to teaching a Masterclass in Design and Branding, the jewelry designer and Punahou graduate just confirmed she'll be holding a public trunk show in Waikiki. Those unable to attend the Masterclass and private trunk show on Saturday can meet Bliss and shop her designs tomorrow instead.
When: Tomorrow, 4-6 p.m.
Where: Coconut Waikiki Hotel, 450 Lewers St.
Details: No validated parking available, though you can park in the metered open-air lot off Kuhio Ave.
What: Tomorrow, the early access curtains come down and Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale officially kicks off with major discounts on brand-new fall merchandise from labels like Diane von Furstenberg, rag & bone, Vince, BCBG, and Elizabeth and James (zebra print sunglasses, below, $129.90 sale, $195 regular). Shop quickly; these designer exclusives jump back to regular prices on August 5.
When: Tomorrow at 8 a.m. through August 4.
Where: Nordstrom, Ala Moana Center.
Details: You can also shop the sale online here.
What: Attention, male shoppers. If you missed last night's pau hana and trunk show featuring Hong Kong-based haberdasher, The Armoury, and bespoke trouser specialist, Ambrosi Napoli, at Leather Soul Downtown, make sure to stop by for a second round tonight. You'll get to view La Vera Sartoria Orazio Luciano, one of the flag bearers of Neapolitan tailoring, and meet Signore Salvatore Ambrosi, widely considered to be the best bespoke trouser maker in the world. Whiskey and cocktails will be served.
When: Tonight, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Where: Leather Soul Downtown, 119 Merchant St., #100
Details: RSVP to Justin Cariaga at (808)523-7700 or email email@example.com.
