You Are Going To Love These Weekend Events

Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

MORI Crafts, Please

What: Sure, we love champagne. And who would say no to a box of chocolates? But probably our favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is crafting up a storm. Luckily the local boutique scene has got us covered. Art+Flea vendors MistPrint and Luna Amante will be at MORI lending their expertise to your Valentine’s creations. Choose between a succulent workshop or a greeting-card and button-making workshop, or both. Your sweetie will love the special, custom-made gift, and you’ll love the fun you have making it.
When: Friday, Feb. 13, 6–8 p.m.
Where:  Ward Village Shops, near The Face Shop
Details: Call 593-8958 for more information.

Island Style

What: A Valentine’s Day pop-up in Kailua, featuring crafters, Hawaiian food, live music and—wait for it—lomi massages. Love, love, love, right? We know you leave your sweetheart’s gifts until the last minute (no judgements!), so you’ll be stoked to know all the local designers that will be selling their wares. Find Le‘ale‘a Designs, Pupuka Co., Tahitian pearl and shell jewelry by Ona’s Creations and clutches and purses by Salt Designs.
When: Friday, Feb. 13, 5–9 p.m.
Where: 120 Hekili St., Kailua
Details: Have you seen these cute hats by Le‘ale‘a Designs? Once you grab your sweetie’s present, you’ll definitely have to grab a little treat for yourself.

Day of the Red

What: What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a Mexican-inspired fiesta at Paiko Hawai‘i? Create custom treats in the Valentine’s D.I.Y. Cacti Garden, the custom perfumery by Indigo Elixirs or the Mexican paper-flower workshop. There will also be hand-tied bouquets to experiment with, and, as if that’s not enough to do, find time to sip margaritas and enjoy music by guest DJ Roberta Oaks.
When: Saturday, Feb. 14, 7–9 p.m.
Where:  675 Auahi St.
Details: Oh, there’s more (WE KNOW): Paiko is offering Valentine’s boxes for easy gift giving. They include items such as proteas, skincare goodies, chocolates and a pretty card—all local, of course. Pre-orders are highly recommended, so get on that phone now! For more gift box options, check out the adorable ones at Owens & Co.

Flower Power

What: We promised you lots of crafts, didn’t we? Urban Outfitters is already proving it knows the way to our hearts with a Valentine’s Day-themed craft workshop that is too cute to miss. Red roses are nice, but flower crowns are the botanical baubles that really make you feel like a queen, so hop on over for some flower-crown crafting with Paiko Hawai‘i. Once you’re properly adorned, you can get to making your Valentine’s Day card.
When: Friday, Feb. 12, 7–9 p.m.
Where:  2424 Kalākaua Ave.
Details: Call 922-7970 for more information.

That’s Hot

What: Dinner and a movie? Simple, classic, it will always be a perfect date—er, unless your idea of a movie is taking in a bootleg copy of Dracula Untold on the couch. Go the classy route and head to the Honolulu Museum of Art for a foolproof date watching Marilyn Monroe’s classic Some Like It Hot (56 years old and still hilarious), followed by an appropriately seaside-inspired dinner at the museum’s cafe. The film follows two Chicago musicians who get caught in the middle of a gang shooting and flee to a Florida seaside resort where romantic hijinks ensue.
When: Saturday, Feb. 14, 6 p.m.
Where: 900 S. Beretania St.
Details: $45 per person. Buy tickets here.

Sweet Talk

What: $300 dinners? Tiffany’s diamond rings? French lingerie? Your Valentine is so above those material things—what she wants is some good, old-fashioned romance and the pleasure of your company. I think we found the perfect gift for you: Audible Studios’ collection of classic love poems narrated by Richard Armitage. Snuggle up with your cutie and listen to immortal works by poets such as John Keats, Robert Browning, William Shakespeare and e.e. cummings. Plus, it’s totally free—just add love and you’re good to go.
Where:  audible.com
Details: BRB, currently listening to “She Walks In Beauty” by Lord Byron and swooning.
