6 Merry Ways to Shop and Play This Weekend
Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.
What: We love that store-bought tinsel you’ve got up, and those cutout snowflakes stuck to your window are really adorable. But, let’s take this holiday décor game up a notch, shall we? Of course Paiko—our go-to shop for chic, garden-inspired trinkets, planters and general pretty things—has just the thing: a holiday wreath workshop. Create a loose, organic wreath using sustainable and unexpected plant materials, many of them local (love!). Also, don’t fret about post-holiday blues. We know how hard it is so watch your beloved Christmas tree die year after year, but the Paiko team can teach you how to add new materials to your wreath throughout the season to keep it perpetually fresh.
When: Sunday, Dec. 13, 2–3:30 p.m.
Where: 675 Auahi St.
Details: $65. Each person will create one 14-inch wreath to take home. Visit paikohawaii.com or call 988-2165 to register.
The Knit Before Christmas
What: Why do they call it the most wonderful time of the year? Our guess is it’s because of all the sweet sample sales that happen right around now. Take the Lynn Sakutori sale happening this weekend, which will feature knitwear apparel in all sizes at some pretty sweet prices. Still looking for a gift for Mom? Consider your holiday woes assuaged. This is the first time you’ll be able to grab the designer’s coveted a-line and Sakutori lines, which every local mama needs in her closet, so come early and don’t forget to bring the bills, as this is a cash-only event.
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: 729 Emily St.
Details: Street parking available. Visit the Sakutori Clothing Facebook page for more information on the brand.
What: What did we tell you about the sample sales? You’ll also want to hit up the Tiare Hawai‘i warehouse sale in Kaka‘ako to stock up for ’kini season in the coming spring and summer months. This huge annual blowout sale will have thousands of your favorite pretty pieces from this Island-essential brand starting as low as $15. Forget sugarplums dancing in your head—we’re having visions of kaftans, sundresses and maillots. And it’s making us seriously merry.
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: 449 Cooke St.
Details: Visit tiarehawaii.com to scope out some of the brand’s past designs.
What: What’s better than shopping? Shopping and sipping, of course. Stylish local beach babes Camille and Jackie Brady will be launching the latest collection from their swimwear brand Cami and Jax at Bloomingdale’s in Ala Moana. And, they’re doing it in style. Think a tiki bar serving up virgin tropical cocktails and a free towel with every purchase. Shop the collection, which includes sleek one-pieces with lace-up straps, festive palm prints and pretty ruching details for your very favorite girlfriends’ Christmas presents, or treat yourself. It’s the season of giving, after all!
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 2–4 p.m.
Where: Bloomingdale’s, Ala Moana Center
Details: Call 664-7511 for more information.
What: ’Tis the season for holiday hair emergencies, amirite? With all the cookie-baking, present-buying, parcel-wrapping and card-sending, it’s hard to turn frantic, running-around you into presentable, holiday-party-ready you. Especially when your ’do looks just as frizzed out as you feel. Thank goodness for the newly opened dry bar, Coiffe Couture at Kristin Wood's newly opened, ultra luxe, unbelieveably glam new studio. You know her for her drop-dead-gorgeous lash extension offerings, but now you can visit the dry bar for a quick pre-party blowout that will tame the mane and keep you looking sleek. The bar’s no-cut, no-color philosophy means it focuses exclusively on flawless blowouts, everything you need and nothing you don’t for getting yourself looking fab for a fête.
Where: 2885 S. King St.
Details: Call 738-7386 for more information or to book an appointment.
What: Are we the only ones dying to take a wintry sleigh ride out of the city right now? Unfortunately, we’re fresh out of snow here in Hawai‘i, so you’ll have to settle for a car ride. At least your destination will put you in the holiday spirit! New Wahiawā boutique Niu is having a fun shopping event with prizes, savings, food, Champagne and a trunk show. Enjoy 15 percent off the entire store and the opportunity to win Tahitian pearl earrings, jewelry class passes and gift certificates. A trunk show featuring Lychee Swimwear, Milk The Goat and Grace Bijoux will also give you some Christmas gift ideas for those last few people on your list.
