Street Smart-Looking

What: You know how much we love everything local and everything fashion here at Lei Chic. That's why we're so stoked about the new project of University of Hawai'i Assistant Professor Andy Reilly of the Fashion Design and Merchandising department. Reilly is already co-author of Honolulu Street Style, and is embarking on a sister street-style book. He started a Kickstarter campaign to cover expenses for photographing and scouting Berlin residents, printing, distribution, layout and editing.
When: The Kickstarter event ends Monday, Jan. 12
Where: Go to kickstarter.com to pledge.
Details: German street style? We're totally sold.

Farm to Table

What: Christmas pudding. Cooked goose. Candy canes. Your body will be screaming for a little TLC by the time this feasting is all over. Put the candy bowl down and do yourself a favor by heading over to the Kaka'ako Farmers Market for some fresh, locally grown fruits and veggies to make your holidays a little healthier. If you still can't resist, there will be treats and other eats in abundance for you to indulge in. You still have a few more days before your New Year's resolution cleanse, right?
When: Saturday, Dec. 27, 8 a.m.– noon
Where: Ward Village
Details: Hint: Go for the bananas and skip the berries if you're trying to help your body digest that huge Christmas dinner.

It's In The Bag (Sponsored)

What: After this weekend, you’re sure to be full of warm Christmas tidings. But in your wallet? Totally empty, thanks to all those presents you bought. Luckily, Royal Hawaiian Center has a New Year shopping event that’s totally budget-friendly. At the one-day-only Fukubukuro sale, purchase a Fukubukuro—or “lucky bag”—and score goodies worth at least twice as much as the cost of the bag. Kate Spade New York, L’Occitane, Fighting Eel, Forever 21 and more will be participating, so visit them next Thursday. Bags range from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars, so you can take your chances with as big or as little a leap of faith as you like.
When: Thursday, Jan. 1, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
Where: Royal Hawaiian Center. For a full list of participating vendors, visit royalhawaiiancenter.com.
Details: Legend has it that the good fortune in one’s Fukubukuro predicts the luck they’ll have in the New Year—so let's hope you score big.

Ride

Light On

What: Your work vacation has begun. You have all your presents bought and wrapped. Christmas dinner is all set (as in, you pawned it off on your sister this year). Time to kick back and let the holiday fun begin. Our favorite way to get in the Christmas spirit? Taking a little tour of Honolulu City Lights, a staple every year. Hop on a trolley at Ward Village Shops to get a VIP view of the setup. Just bundle yourself in your favorite holiday sweater and settle in for the ride.
When: Through Dec. 30
Where: Ward Village Shops
Details: $6.50 per person. Go to wardvillageshops.com for more information.

Poetic Justice

What: One of our favorite parts of this year has got to be when we discovered beautiful, talented, stylish Lupita Nyong'o in 12 Years A Slave. It was an awesome year for People's Most Beautiful Person of 2014, and to express her gratitude, she posted this totally awww-worthy holiday poem that will banish any last shred of Grinchiness and get you ready for Christmas cheer.
Where: Check out Lupita's Instagram post here.
Details: Want to relive Lupita's amazing red carpet looks? Us too. View them here.

Watch

Woodland Feature

What: Did you know that Christmas is one of the busiest days for movie theaters? Whether you're trying to escape those inescapable mistletoe traps, or you factor films into your holiday family traditions, our pick this year has got to be Into the Woods. After the fun of Maleficent, we are totally into the fairty tale vibe. The movie (based on a Sondheim musical) follows a baker and his wife as they venture into a forest to reverse an evil witch's spell, and on the way meet Cinderella, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood. Enter some of our faves: Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep as the witch.
When: Opens Christmas
Details: How magical is this trailer?
