Tailor-Made

What: Trunk shows. Impeccable tailoring. Custom-made clothes. These are a few of our favorite things, which is why we are practically salivating in anticipation of this weekend’s trunk show. Rumi Murakami, a Cut Collective member known for her sleek tailoring, is bringing rolls of fabric to create cut-to-order pieces from her latest collection. Joining her is Language of the Birds’ Tsia Carson with the brand’s beautifully printed, beautifully silhouetted contemporary resort wear. There will also be C.Smith jewelry up for sale, and light refreshments and white wine provided.
When: Saturday, April 25, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Fishcake, 307C Kaimani St.
Details: Call 593-1231 for more information.

It Suits You

What: We know: Spring just started and it’s so hard to think about summer already. But because we love you, we’re here to push you to start thinking fashionably ahead. This should help. Issa de' Mar, the swimsuit brand that absolutely killed it at HONOLULU Fashion Week’s runway shows, is giving you the opportunity to jump ahead, wardrobe-wise, with an Instagram contest to score a free bikini. Just follow @localmotionhawaii and @issademar, repost this photo and tag #issaxlomo. Good luck and happy beaching!
When: Winner will be randomly selected April 30.

Think Pink

What: We probably follow more fashion bloggers on Instagram than actual friends (what? Just us?), so we’re always looking for more style icons to give us outfit inspo for the season to come. The latest account that’s making us double tap until our fingers are sore? Only the most stylish fashion icon of all. The Instagram of Barbie (doll, that is) is totally adorable and a real Internet gem (did you know she went to Coachella?), racking up fans and followers faster than you can say "material girl." No surprise: After last year’s iconic Barbie-inspired Moschino collection, life in plastic is so hot right now. Pretty good for age 50+.

Details: Oh, and, street style game? Perfect. Can you totally see Tay Swift wearing this or what?

Seeing Green

What: Earth Day is over but, news flash, people: Taking care of the planet is important every day of the year. What's that? You’re super busy and you definitely don’t have the time to get on that tree-planting plan? Sounds like you need motivation to commit to the cause. Read something from Flavorwire’s list of novels that will turn you into an environmentalist. We are already huge fans of Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake, which made the list, but, be warned that this novel about the human-caused destruction of the planet ain’t no feel-good story. In fact, it recently made The Guardian’s list of most disturbing novels. Ulp. Time to ramp up that recycling.
Where: Flavorwire
Details: Post-apocalyptic-lovers, rejoice! This book list is packed with gems to keep us busy for weeks.
