The Gold and the Beautiful

Lei Chic You and your girlfriends used to party like Lindsay Lohan. These days, your girls’ nights seem to be channeling Martha Stewart (before the jail term).

You’re sipping coffee out of your friend’s hand-glazed, self-fired mug, watching your roommate rifle through the clutch she designed, while your old college friend passes out the uber-cute birthday invitations she sketched.

The last thing you made by hand was a macaroni necklace that even your mother refused to wear. Since then, everything you attempt turns into arts and crap.

Get an expert to help you jewel-it-yourself at the new Studio Bijoux in Kaimuki. Owner Kihwa Kwon Gosline studied at the world-recognized Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry in Tokyo and is now sharing her expertise. Lei Chic

Jewelry makers can rent studio time with all the tools they need for their trade. But amateurs can also test their metal in daily adult and children classes. Students will learn basic skills such as cutting, soldering, and filing a sterling silver ring, and leave with a self-made pendant, ring or earrings.

Studio Bijoux periodically offers special workshops such as upcycling. Bring in the family jewels and Gosline will help you turn it into something more modern.

Lei ChicAnd to polish it all off, the studio serves as a storefront for jewelry Gosline imports from former college classmates in Asia. Pieces range from delicate color washed resin earrings and necklaces, to quirky shoe form pendants, and tiny 3D stackable skull rings.

Gosline is also available for custom designs or personalized attention with your special jewelry project.

So you can don’t have to worry about the gold shoulder next time you wear your art on your sleeve.

And that’s a bling thing.
