Brower Raps Hawaii
Hawaii state house representatives got a unique invocation from Rep. Tom Brower last week. Instead of the traditional prayer, Brower unleashed a rap that recalled, sort of, the events of the 2009 legislative session. Sample: “House blog/ Coqui frogs/ Menopause/ Hilo vog/ Drug sniffing dog.”
The best part may be the complete non-reaction at the end from Vice Speaker of the House Michael Magaoay, who thanks dryly Brower for his "political insight prayer." Guess nobody needed an encore?
This isn’t Brower’s first spoken-word odyssey; he performed a similarly verb-less rap last year, on April 1 (also available on YouTube, for hardcore rap fans).

Rep. Tom Brower is the most refreshing personality in the State House. He brings levity to an otherwise mundane political process. His creativity at the mic is matched only by his creative bills -- Prohibiting Butts on the Beach, and Hoarding cats in Kakaako. Not the most monumental legislation, but important to his constituents. We need more community leaders with a backbone and a sense of humor. Tom is in a league of his own.
