Wednesday Night Line-Up
Last Wednesday, I was in search of a night with big comfy chairs, Red Bull and a quiet evening to catch up with my friends. What I found was an entertaining Wednesday night line-up.
From 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights, Bar 35 hosts a beer tasting. Eight beers in 4-ounce shot glasses are enough to start anyone’s night on a high note. Fool’s Gold was the theme the night I visited, with beers from Oregon, Denmark and California. What made the night even better was that the alcohol volume increased with each consecutive drink, starting with a 4.2 percent Mehana and ending with a 10.5 percent Piraat—so, take your time enjoying all eight. Wednesdays, 6 to 8 p.m., 35 N. Hotel St., 537-3535, beer808.com.
Pipeline Cafe was crowded by the time we arrived at 8 p.m. Comic, Jay Philips, who has appeared on Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central, and Jimmy Kimmel live, was headlining this night. Pipeline has been hosting out of town comics on Wednesday nights and it brings a refreshing humor compared to all the local kine comedy we see everywhere else in Hawaii. Tomorrow, watch Finesse Mitchell, a former Saturday Night Live cast member. And, next Wednesday will feature Pauly Shore. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Purchase tickets online at pipelinecafehawaii.com.
Apartment 3 is a perfect place to end the night. With a dark windowless interior, this is a cozy place to chat with friends, drink fancy cocktails and eat a wide array of comfort food—including my favorite, the ratatouille. Wednesday nights also feature live music, this month by Tahiti Rey. 1750 Kalakaua Ave., apartmentthree.com.
