The Hitt List: My Honolulu Mardi Gras Picks
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 is Mardi Gras, so it’s time to pick up some beads, buy a colorful mask and make your way out to a Fat Tuesday bash.
The Mardi Gras Carnaval street festival will be happening again on Nuuanu Avenue from 5:30-10:30 p.m. Expect samba parades with floats, New Orleans inspired food, live music on three stages and a $500 cash costume contest. The event is free, but if you want to drink, you’ll have to pick up a $3 wristband. Also, if you plan on partying until 2 a.m., get an additional wristband at $10 to get in at five different clubs: SoHo, Next Door, Manifest, Bar 35 and Thirtyninehotel.
Oceans 808 and Pearl Ultralounge will also be having their very own Mardi Gras parties, but if you’re interested in trying something new, stop by Paparazzi this night for its Tumbao Caliente salsa grand opening party. The music will be salsa, merengue, bachata, Latin House, Top 40 and mashups. Plus, watch five-time world salsa champions Oliver Pineda and Luda Kroiter from Australia as they take the floor. Ward Center, $10, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
It’s going to be a fun night of food, fun costumes and plenty of dancing. See you on the dance floor!
