The Five Ono at Five-O Bar and Lounge
There’s a new bar in the Royal Hawaiian Center. While the thought of a bar next to a food court doesn’t sound all that exciting, I did make one happy discovery—the Five Ono cocktail.
When I arrived at Five-O Bar and Lounge, the bartender recommended a ginger cosmo called the Five-Oh!—which I tried, and enjoyed. But, cosmos are safe, and I was in the mood for something different. The Five Ono caught my eye: a mix of Liqueur 43 and Bacardi Coconut, mixed with coconut milk and topped with roasted coconut flakes. As a coconut-lover, I was in liquid-haupia Heaven.
The bar offers comfy red couches to lounge in—you’re even allowed to bring in your own food, because the bar only serves drinks. Local bands perform on Five O’s stage, and the owner, Ted Davenport, mentioned the possibility of deejays in the future.
This bar provides something that the Royal Hawaiian Center didn’t have before—a place for people to grab a quick and easy drink. But whether it will attract locals will depend largely on the promotions they push. It’s not on my list of must-places to go to on a Friday night, but with late-night hours, it’s a place I'll be keeping my eye on.
Open 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, 2 a.m. o Friday and Saturday. 2nd Floor, Royal Hawaiian Center.
