Honolulu’s First ASICS Store Will Make You Want to Run (For Fun!)
Fresh, modern apparel, customized kicks and a stunning mural by local artist Kamea Hadar are just a few reasons to visit the latest addition to International Market Place.

I’m a runner. OK, more like a jolly jogger or super-fast speed walker according to my nutso sisters who get a high off running. I run to eat. And, since I’ve endured three knee surgeries, finding the right pair of (stylish) running shoes is important.
So, when this ASICS fan heard the brand would have a new home, at International Market Place, my heart started racing. Would it have the latest and greatest shoe designs? What would make this shop different from the Waikele location? What sleek fashions would it sell? Well, all my questions have been answered. I visited the shop last week, toured the sleek, well-curated designed space, and met with three amazing team members whom I now consider my new sprint network.
Here’s me checking out all the current options. Of course, I’m attracted to the brightest sneaks. But, I learned that the advanced technology behind every ASICS shoe is methodical and purposeful. The Kayano, which is my favorite, has 12 unique product details that provide maximum support, cushion and comfort.
Team member Melissa Hoyer preps me for the free, exclusive to this location, ASICS Motion ID experience. High-tech motion sensors are attached to your body while you run/walk on a treadmill to record running patterns and body movement. The results determine what shoe fits best for your physique and physical regimen. My glass slipper was the Metarun in onyx black and rose gold, or what I called the Louboutin of ASICS shoes.
The New Strong collection from ASICS is, in my eyes, a collaboration of Alicia Keys’ confidence, Victoria Beckham’s style and Venus Williams’ strength. My fave, the Ready 2 Rock jumper, can go from lifting weights to lifting cocktails. But, besides the fashion appeal, when I tried on a few of the styles, featured in the photo above, I felt good. The easy-going silhouettes hugged me in all the right places and had just enough compression to support my muscles. The fabrics were breathable and lightweight, which is important, since our recent weather has you sweatin’ in (not to) the 90s.
My fun sprint network! Thank you to William (back) for sharing all the deets about the brand and new contemporary direction it’s going, to Melissa (left) for being the best trainer (she made me run for only 30 seconds), and to Bryan (right) for decking me out in workout gear that fit me and my personality perfectly.
