We’ve always been big fans of Pow! Wow!, the local-gone-global art collective behind Kaka‘ako’s vibrant, eye-catching murals. So, we were stoked to hear that Pow! Wow! founder and lead director Jasper Wong had recently teamed up with L.A. fashion brand Tokidoki, known for its adorable cartoon characters, on a design collab that would infuse some of that poppy, graphic goodness directly into our wardrobes.

Wong linked up with Tokidoki co-founder and chief creative officer Simone Legno, and together the duo created an exclusive design featuring a plethora of playful, adorable and often mischievous characters, which they then made into a tee. Along with a matching art print, both will be launched this Friday at Honolulu Museum of Art’s ARTafterDARK event.

“Our style melded together fluidly,” says Wong of the collaboration. Both artists hand-illustrated individual characters that Legno collaged into one attention-grabbing pattern, and it’s a blast letting your eyes wander about, discovering new ones at every turn. “A particular favorite of mine is a couple of teddy bears stealing an ice cream cone in a Volkswagen,” says Wong. “Some of my other characters included ones with dinosaur skulls. I also have popsicles and an ice cream cone that is running away—the ice cream guy is a classic character of mine.”

The mix also includes Tokidoki’s signature unicorns, cacti and skeletons. And keep an eye out for our favorites from Legno’s bunch, a hip, sunglasses-clad pineapple and a razor-tooth palm tree.

Pow! Wow! x Tokidoki collab tee, $60. The launch happens this Friday, July 28, during Honolulu Museum of Art’s ARTafterDARK event at the Honolulu Museum of Art shop, 900 S. Beretania St., (808) 532-8700.
