I just love it when a good collab comes together. Because the only thing better than a fresh release from a local label is a fresh release from two local labels. Case in point, the latest from jewelry designer Amanda Watkins of A.Wattz Dezigns, who teamed up with purveyor of old-school cool, Bradley Rhea, co-owner of Barrio Vintage, on a retro-chic capsule collection set to drop this Friday.
The collection’s dual inspirations include disco and eclectic, nomadic vibes. Think slinky, sexy chokers, drop earrings and lariats crafted using vintage chain from the ’70s and ’80s, and reworked, chunky beaded necklaces in mid-century colors like mustard yellow, teal and poppy orange. Watkins even incorporated some of the vintage African trade beads that have become a staple in her A.Wattz Dezigns pieces.
To round out the mix, Rhea dipped into Barrio’s closet and culled an assortment of complementary vintage jewelry. And the pair joined forces on a throwback-style photo shoot (see more photos below) that paired the pieces with gorgeous vintage jumpsuits, Pucci-esque kimono jackets and funky, fringed tops.
Shop the collection at its disco-themed launch this Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Barrio Vintage, 1161 Nu‘uanu Ave., (808) 674-7156.
