Get a Look at the Brand-New Uniqlo Now Open at Ala Moana Center

The new Uniqlo boutique opened on Sept. 28, 2018.

Minimalists rejoice! The Uniqlo boutique’s opening day is finally upon us and it’s everything your clean-lined wardrobe dreams are made of. OK, so it’s not a full-full opening (the store is calling it a soft opening) as it only includes the top Level 3 portion of the store—the Level 2 bottom half is slated to open later on in November. But it’s pretty damn close, as the 11,700-square-foot Level 3 space is ginormous and packed with all of the affordable Uniqlo standbys you’ve come to love.

The highlights: the Ala Moana location is outfitted with women’s, men’s and keiki departments, all featuring lightweight separates, graphic tees, knitwear, pants and jeans (hemming services are free for pants over $20), swimwear, outerwear (down vests and jackets and parkas included), activewear and innerwear. The women’s and girls’ departments also stock breezy jumpers and dresses. And both of the adult sections carry Uniqlo’s heat-retaining bio-warming Heattech innerwear, a must-buy for travel-happy locals who frequent chilly climes.

Local touches: Throughout the store and on its exterior, you’ll find an awesome black-and-white mural by local artist and Pow! Wow! co-founder Jasper Wong depicting a sea of Island-inspired characters. Uniqlo plans to invite local families to come down and color in the drawings once the Level 2 space is open. Snippets of the mural adorn the store’s paper shopping bags. And another Hawai‘i artist, Matthew Tapia, was tapped to create a hand-lettered “Today Is a Good Day for a Good Day!” design for its limited-edition coated eco bags, free to the first 2,000 customers to spend $75. The phrase also graces a limited-edition paddle-fan, available on opening day while stock lasts.

Be sure to also keep an eye out for Uniqlo’s Hawai‘i-exclusive All In the ‘Ohana alohawear collection, which includes flowy mu‘umuu‘u-inspired tank dresses for women and girls, and relaxed aloha shirts for men and boys, in fun all-over graphic patterns. Insider tip: The aloha shirts run a full size larger than Uniqlo’s normal shirt size and shrink in the wash by about a quarter-inch, so adjust accordingly.

Ala Moana Center, Ewa Wing, Level 3, (808) 600-3831. Open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
