New York Fashion Week: Betsey Johnson Shows Off Bridal, Faux Bobs and Bustiers

Spring Summer 2015 brings out the stars.

Here’s the latest report from our managing fashion editor, Brie Thalmann, on New York Fashion Week. Brie has been in the Big Apple, scoping out the runways and the streets, the shows, crowds, trends and happenings.

Betsey! This show was especially exciting for two reasons. One, the beloved New York designer's runway shows are known to be particularly high-energy and filled with fantastic, over-the-top fashions. And two, as a former Betsey girl (I worked at the brand's Honolulu boutique while in college), I've always wanted to see the brand's show pieces, which inspire the pieces that are sold off the racks, as models strutting down the runway in all their unfiltered glory. Lucky for me, the petite powerhouse did not disappoint!

The Show: Betsey Johnson SS15

Theme:

Titled "Prenup", the collection had a clear bridal theme (at one point, “Chapel of Love” blasted out over the speakers and the entire audience sang along in unison) but also included a slew of special occasion and party dresses.

Celeb Spottings:

Jessica Hart, Fern Malis, Christina Milian, Robert Verdi, Miss J. Alexander

Catwalk Cameos:

Real Housewives Kristen Taekman, Cynthia Bailey and Camille Grammer walked the runway along with model Isis King, and Johnson's Dancing with the Stars partner Tony Dovolani.

Hair and Makeup:

Faux bobs constructed of messily pinned-up curls, eyes heavily lined with dark shadow and liner and deep red pouts.

Key Looks:

In the mix—bustier tops, drop-waist dresses, shiny lame, '80s tiered ruffles, lots and lots of lace, and voluminous skirts made of what looked like tulle and organza.

Fun Facts:

Ru Paul's Drag Race contestant Sharon Needles closed the show in a billowy white gown, tossing her bouquet into the crowd at the end of the runway. For the finale, Johnson sashayed down the runway escorted by Dovolani, followed by a train of dancing, pom-pom shaking models. At the end of the line? Needles again, who scooped Johnson up to carry her back over the altar, ahem, catwalk.
