Established in 1980, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center has been at the forefront of individualized and creative learning that promotes the joy of discovery in those formative toddler-to-kindergarten years. Featuring a new state-of-the-art facility completed in 2004, the coed and year-round NAEYC-accredited school, located in Kahala, is Hawaii’s first Montessori Catholic preschool.
“Children at ELC learn in an environment designed for how young children learn,” says Dr. Lisa Foster, director of ELC. That includes spacious indoor and outdoor play areas and lots of hands-on learning activities. ELC students grow into active and confident learners through a well-rounded education that is contemporary and Christian. Its quality academic curriculum is personalized to meet a child’s individual needs. Its child-centered learning environment encourages fun and self-discovery and is enriched by music, dance, vocal, gymnastics, soccer, Japanese language, hula and piano classes. “Our dedicated teachers make the difference by fostering the development of the whole child through their loving, caring and nurturing relationships with children,” adds Foster.
The school features an integrated, multiage learning environment for 3, 4 and 5-year olds in preschool and kindergarten. Foster emphasizes that the curriculum will be age-appropriate to each age group, while creating a family-like setting to encourage peer tutoring, cooperative learning and older students to serve as role models. Students will benefit from the continuity and familiarity of staying with the same teachers for up to three years.
Looking for a quality early education school for your preschooler? Lisa Foster wants “Star of the Sea ELC” to be at the top of your list.
