Diverse opportunities and time-honored traditions together forge “Gentlemen of Character” – the hallmark of graduates of Saint Louis School. Established in 1846, the 162-year-old Catholic Marianist school, distinguished as having the longest tradition of Catholic secondary education in Hawaii, provides a strong college prep education for grades 4-12 in an all-boys learning environment that emphasizes academic excellence and personal growth.
“At Saint Louis, we welcome young boys and envision in each the ‘Saint Louis Man,’ a learned and ethical person who can assume leadership in our current global society,” says Walter Kirimitsu, the school’s first lay president and a 1958 graduate.
“We have a strong legacy of providing a quality education that develops young boys from various backgrounds through the Catholic Marianist tradition of spiritual, academic, physical and emotional growth. We are also mindful of contemporary challenges our students will face and strive to develop young men who have critical thinking skills and sound moral character to recognize opportunities, take calculated risks, and succeed in the face of adversity,” he adds.

A young boy entering Saint Louis School will find a stimulating, diverse learning environment, a sense of brotherhood and true camaraderie among peers that can last a lifetime, and spirited, intellectual creativity nurtured by dedicated teachers.
Saint Louis School continues to develop techniques from the innovative, interdisciplinary Gurian Institute program, based on scientific research on gender learning differences, to ensure that boys thrive in class through positive, hands-on learning experiences. It has provided professional training opportunities for select teachers to go to the Mainland to become Gurian Institute Certified Trainers, the first ones in the state. In 2007, the school was honored as Hawaii’s only Gurian Model School.
Called by many graduates their “most valuable experience,” Saint Louis School’s unique Retreat Program, offered at each grade level, provides a personal journey for each boy to establish and strengthen his relationship with God and to reflect on living spiritual values in his life.

A challenging future beckons for today’s students to develop an international outlook in their career choices and for their individual financial success. To prepare boys to be skilled communicators in the global marketplace, Saint Louis School continues student exchange programs with Japan and China, including Shanghai’s Yang Pu Senior High students.
Well known for one of the state’s best athletic programs, Saint Louis School recognizes that a variety of extracurricular activities, complementing its rigorous academic program, helps boys develop into high achievers. Arts, music and an internationally recognized drama program give students opportunities to develop and hone individual interests.
“When a young man graduates from Saint Louis School, he is ready to assume his place as a confident and morally strong leader who has grown personally, academically and spiritually. We are proud to empower young men to be mindful and faithful in their life endeavors and to be great citizens of their communities and the world,” says Kirimitsu.
