Founded in 1949, Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) is one of the premier independent, co-educational college-preparatory boarding and day schools in the Pacific Region. Located on two campuses encom-passing 228 acres in Waimea on the Island of Hawaii, the school offers a full range of academic and extracurricular opportunities, many of them unique to its beautiful location, for 600 students in grades K-12 (and post graduate). Offering a boarding option for students in grades 6-12, HPA attracts its diverse student body from the Hawaiian Islands, 14 other states and U.S. territories, and 15 other countries.
Opportunity is the distinguishing hallmark of the HPA Ex-perience. Students at HPA have opportunities to participate in a range of “big school” programs in a small school setting, while meeting and making lifelong friendships with peers from around the world. HPA’s marine science program, in collaboration with NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service, PacificIslandsFisher-iesScienceCenter, offers unrivaled encounters with Hawaii Island’s remarkable ocean environment. HPA’s partnerships with renowned high-tech neighbors, such as the Mauna Loa Observatory, enable students to participate in real-world, cutting edge research.
There is a special synergy at HPA, as a place where students and teachers from around the world converge to work toward common goals and reach for unlimited levels of excellence and fulfillment.
