Quiet condo living in Makaha

My first trip to the west side of Oahu was a couple of months ago to attend a party at an oceanfront house in Makaha. Though a modest home, it was a beautiful setting: a stone’s throw from the waves and an obligatory hammock to take in the technicolor sunset. Sure, it’s a long drive from Honolulu, but residents who live there would argue it’s worth it.

The pace is slower out on the west side. For surfers and fishing enthusiasts, opportunities abound. If that’s the lifestyle you’re looking for and you’re willing to brave the commute (or lucky enough to work from home), the real estate properties are much more affordable than in town.

So affordable, that when I saw the price of this newly relisted two-bedroom condo at Makaha Valley Plantation ($90,000 fee simple), I did a double take. Click here for details.

This bright, first-floor unit features laminate wood flooring throughout. An additional half bath is an added bonus, not all of the “A” units have one. It includes a stacked washer/dryer, so there’s no need to utilize the community laundry. If you’re worried about staying cool, there’s an opening where you can install a portable A/C unit. There’s also a decently sized lanai that can fit a table and chairs.

The maintenance fee ($482 a month) includes cable TV, sewer and water. Amenities include a barbecue area, two swimming pools, a cabana and a sauna.

Fuzz factor: Pets are allowed, but you’ll need to double check for a number limit or any weight restrictions.

If golf’s your game, there are two golf courses adjacent to the Plantation’s property and for fun in the sun and sand, it’s just a five-minute drive to Makaha Beach Park.

There has been a lot of interest in this unit, so if you’re interested, you’d better act quickly.

Money talk: $90,000 fee simple
