Open House Pick of the Week: A Makiki Home With a Japanese Garden
A contemporary and spacious home in Makiki Heights.

There are a lot of huge estates up in Makiki Heights, many worth about $10 million or more, so this week’s open-house pick almost seems like a deal compared to those.
The property has a lot of potential for future development, since the lot is 9,037 square feet and the garden gazebo area has room to build a separate cottage. I’m not sure that you’d want to disturb the Zen of the yard, though, as it has some nice lime trees and a small Japanese garden.
The two-story home is 2,128 square feet with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. Since it was built in 1973, it has some design elements that reflect the trends of the time; it’s been upgraded with some very contemporary touches, though, especially the kitchen and bathrooms.
Other upgrades include a new roof, double-paned windows, solar water heater, split air conditioning and a security system.
The area is very quiet, but close to Spalding House and hiking trails. Life on the mountain includes panoramic city, ocean and sunset views, naturally.
This home just hit the market so its first open house will be Sunday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. Click here for details.
Happy house hunting!
Money talk: $1.5 million
