Rare features in a Waialae Iki home

Some days, when I’m browsing new listings, many of the homes look alike. This one on Waialae Iki really popped off the page, and you can see why. (Click here for details.)

The private, rim lot on Kamole St. is huge—more than 23,000 square feet, with a sprawling yard and lush landscaping, a big pool and a huge driveway. It’s definitely made for entertaining.

The two-story home is equally huge, with 4,470 square feet of living area. Its open floor plan easily flows from oneintimate space to the next, which makes each room seem larger than they would if there were more walls. Panoramic views of the ocean, from Diamond Head to Koko Head, can be seen from almost every room.

The residence was built in 1964, but was extensively renovated in 2004, so the interior incorporates modern touches with classic design. For example, the Studio Becker kitchen features customcherry cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances, but in the dining room, you’ll find Italian Murano glass lighting.

Most of the living area, including four bedrooms and three bathrooms, is on the first floor, and the huge master suite is upstairs. With its high ceilings, dramatic size, sitting area, wetbar and sweeping views, it’s like its own private apartment. The master bathroom even has a jacuzzi tub with a view of Diamond Head.

“It's rare to have four bedrooms, all the living areas, large yard and pool all on one level on a hill, but because the lot is so spacious, it affords the not only the space but the privacy,” says realtor Kai McDurmin of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. “Cool breezes throughout are also one of the features that the sellers enjoy most.”

The home is open today and the next two Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Money talk: $2,088,800 fee simple
