The search for a new home - Week three

This may be the last blog entry on Ed and Maile Sugimoto’s house-hunting adventures for a while. As you read this, they’re at the hospital having a baby! That’s right, the reason they were looking for a larger home in the first place is already here.

I followed Ed to a listing in McCully that seemed to suit the family’s needs. Although they have their hearts set on a single-family home, this townhouse is pretty close to what they were looking for.

On the other side of the enclosed garage, they have a little yard (which seems to be an important element for the Sugimotos). The townhouse complex—which is comprised of four units—larger, shared, enclosed yard facing McCully St. with trees and flowers, and the option to grow more as a garden.

When guests walk in to the home, they go straight into the spacious living room and kitchen. Since the unit is renovated, the floors, counters, carpets, and appliances are all new. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms: one master, and two that Ed imagines could be used as a baby room and an office.

“It’s a little out of our intended budget at $579,000,” Ed says. “We’ve been looking at homes that are in the $300,000 to $400,000 range so that we could keep our current home to rent out. If we bought this one, I’d have to sell my home.

“On the other hand, the homes we’ve seen in our price range have been small, older homes. I guess that’s the price you pay for living in town,” he adds. “This spot is really convenient, though.”

He took some video on his FlipCam to show Maile, and hopefully they can view it while they rest in the hospital.

Good luck and congratulations to the Sugimotos!
