Waialua House is Smart Nouveau

It may look like a remodel, but this Waialua plantation-style house ain’t from the ’40s, it’s you-won’t-have-to-replace-anything new.

It’s smallish, only 1,400 square feet, but all the construction is thoughtful: windows are placed for ventilation and rooms feel open and light because of the hardwood bamboo flooring and vaulted ceilings. Things like deep sinks and stone walk-in showers make small spaces seem less small. And the owner, who is also the realtor, added touches like mango wood cabinetry and custom stonework so the house feels high-end.

The only thing that’s NOT new is the neighborhood—it’s in a mixed area, which means both babies and tutus for neighbors. But it’s very neighborly and normal, and that’s the North Shore. If you wanted everything to be identical, you wouldn’t be looking at Waialua, now would you?

Money talk: listed for $595,000, fee simple
