Open house pick of the week: Enchanted Lake

It seems like only yesterday, but more than 50 years ago, Joe Pao and Michael Scarfone planned the Enchanted Lake Subdivision in Kailua. One of the benefits of planning a community is having first dibs on your spot, so Scarfone hand-picked his dream lot with the best panoramic view of the lake and mountains and, in 1966, built his “Enchanted Paesano Villa.”

Scarfone was ahead of his time, ensuring his single-level home would last by cross-stitching the rebar when it was built. There are sliding doors in various spots to give the option to separate bedrooms or close off areas for privacy, some to accommodate his family and some to facilitate efficient entertaining.

Apparently entertaining was important to the Scarfones, as there is a large bar area, an indoor fireplace, indoor grill, and a large living/recreation area that leads out to a large, level yard. The home is 3,865 square feet and the lot is 10,293 square feet, so there’s lots of elbow room for guests and residents. In fact, it’s so spread out, we had to take a tour to see it all.

The entire layout is wide open so that the lake and Mt. Olomana can be seen from almost every spot in the home.

It’s a rare opportunity, not just for the location, but to own the area developer’s home.

Happy house hunting!
