Marina-front condo in Hawaii Kai

One of the things that attracts me to some of the properties in Hawaii Kai is the ability to have your own boat slip. If the mood strikes, a quick walk will have you boat-side and ready to climb aboard. Whenever I go out for a sail, I’m often first at the mercy of traffic as I make my way across town to the Ala Wai Harbor and then, sometimes fruitlessly, searching for a parking spot.

The Esplanade in Hawaii Kai offers its residents 28 boat slips on a first-come, first-served basis as part of the maintenance fee. Currently, there’s no waitlist and the slips, which come with a storage locker, will accommodate up to a 30-foot sailboat.

Even if you’re not looking for a home with boat facilities, consider this two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo on the property that came on the market last week.

“What makes this condo special is that it’s a marina-front condo,” says realtor Michelle Mossman of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. One of the things the owner, who’s relocating to Germany, loves about the place is that you can hear the water lapping when you’re sitting out on the lanai.

The owner has made several upgrades to the second-floor unit including replacing the flooring with glossy engineered hardwood and laying down Berber carpeting in the bedroom. Fuzz factor: Cats and dogs are allowed, with no weight limit.

Two covered side-by-side stalls in a gated garage are included in the price. Plus there are four large cabinets over the stalls for extra storage.
