I always think of country living as being too far away from the convenient things in town, but the owner of this week’s open-house pick proved me wrong. Kokokahi Place, located between Kailua and Kāne‘ohe towns, is away from the bustle of metro Honolulu, but the drive isn’t much longer than my own townie commute.
“It used to take me only 22 minutes from our house to Executive Centre,” says Carolyn Swartz.
If you want to stick to the Windward Side, it’s minutes away from Kailua Beach, Kalama Beach, He‘eia Small Boat Harbor, Kāne‘ohe Yacht Club and Makani Kai Yacht Club. The best part for golfers is the home’s proximity to six courses: Royal Hawaiian Golf Club (formerly known as Luana Hills Country Club), Ko‘olau Golf Club, Pali Golf Course, Mid-Pacific Country Club, Bay View Golf Park and Olomana Golf Club. There’s also a large variety of shopping and dining in the area.
“Nature lovers can explore the nearby Friendship Garden or Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden,” adds Swartz. “And, of course, there’s the view! It’s always enjoyable to watch sailboats race around Coconut Island on a breezy Sunday.”
The 2,61-square-foot cedar home is pretty cool, too. The large great room has soaring ceilings with huge windows—like a wall of glass—to showcase views from the mountains to the ocean. The living spaces open to a wide deck, as well.
The home has a total of three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and one of my favorite features is the master suite on its own floor with a big walk-in closet.
The price on this home was just reduced, and the place will be open this Sunday, Aug. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. Click here for details.
Happy house hunting!
