There are a lot of new condos going up in Kaka‘ako, but many, as you know, are priced through the roof. If you want to be close to the action unfolding in that developing neighborhood but don’t want to be in the fray (or can’t afford to be), getting a spot in the adjacent downtown area is a good option.
This listing in Harbor Square is a very large, one-bedroom, 773-square-foot unit with a 252-square-foot lānai. If you’ve been shopping for condos in town, you know that the square footage of this unit is the size of most two-bedrooms.
It includes one parking stall, but you have the option to buy a second stall for an additional $35,000.
Harbor Square was built in 1971, which is why you can get a unit there for a lot less than the middle of Kaka‘ako. The building is well maintained, though, which is why it’s still a popular place to live. The building has 24-hour security, an on-site manager, a pool and barbecue/recreation areas.
This unit has been renovated and upgraded throughout, including white quartz counters, dark cherry cabinets, travertine and bamboo floors. The kitchen has a walk-in pantry, there are two large closets, which provides the storage space that condos always need. There is central air conditioning and all utilities are included in the maintenance fees.
When the rail is finally built and running to Honolulu, it will pass by on Halekauwila Street and Nimitz Highway with a station about a block away. Not that you need the extra convenience; due to its proximity to downtown events, restaurants, markets and shops, it gets a Walk score of 94 points.
This listing will be open on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. Click here for details.
Happy house hunting!
