Cozy studio near Ala Moana

For a young, single professional, buying your own place may seem particularly daunting especially if you’re looking to live in town. However, there are properties out there that with a little TLC and the willingness to live in a small space would put you in the location you desire.

While it might not be in the most glamorous building, this newly listed studio at Holiday Village in Ala Moana is just $164,500 fee simple. Its location is just a block away from Don Quijote and the Ala Moana Center putting you within easy reach of TheBus routes.

The 318-square-foot, second-floor studio, which is being sold as is, has recently installed lower kitchen cabinets, along with newer appliances. As an avid cook, I particularly like the fact there’s a gas range – a rarity for many apartments in town – to easily control a pan’s heat level.

With clever use of space, this cozy unit could be a terrific starter property. There’s a small lanai with enough place for a few pots of flowers or herbs.

The monthly maintenance fee ($288) includes gas, hot water, sewer and a notable plus – electricity. That’s always a nice inclusion when considering whether to turn on the A/C wall unit.

The well maintained building, which features a heated pool and a community laundry room, will be soon be undergoing an update to its elevators. Being on the second floor could prove a real value when the renovation is going on, you can just zip down the stairs.

There’s no parking included with this studio, but when available, you can rent a space for $80 a month.

The property has already generated a lot of interest, so if you'd like to see it for yourself, there'll be a broker's open house (it's open to the public) on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. It will also be open on Sunday, Aug. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m.  Click here for details.
