Hawaii by Air
Now I’ll never get any work done—not since I followed the links from this Honolulu Star-Bulletin article to the Website of photographer Brian Powers. Powers has photographed every mile of coastline of the Hawaiian Islands from a plane 500 feet in the air and posted the shots here.
Amazing stuff. Powers seems to have flown on only the most gorgeous days of the year. Aerial shots of Waikiki and Honolulu hold no surprises for kamaaina, but no matter how long you’ve lived here, I bet you will be amazed at how strange some otherwise familiar coastline can appear from the air. For example, the stretch of Oahu from Campbell Industrial Park to the engineered waterfront of the Ko Olina resort looks like it could be in Dubai. If you’ve ever wondered what mysterious Niihau looks like, it’s all there, too.
There are more than 10,000 images. You weren’t planning on getting anything done today, were you?
