October Heads Up!

Shame on us! Hawai'i is one of the nation's leaders in pedestrian fatalities, per capita. Join the state Department of Transportation in observing Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day on October 10, by stopping for pedestrians.

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue and discovered America for Europe. We celebrate his journey on Columbus Day, October 10.

Jews will fill synagogues across the globe on October 13, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. On this tenth day after the Jewish New Year, believers will repent, fast, pray and skip work. Services will be held at Temple Emanu-El, and other local synagogues.

It's customary to hand out sweets to your sweetie on Sweetest Day, October 15. A Clevelander, who worked at a candy store, go figure, created the holiday in 1922.
