In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue and discovered America for Europe. We celebrate his journey on Columbus Day, October 10.

Jews will fill synagogues across the globe on October 13, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. On this tenth day after the Jewish New Year, believers will repent, fast, pray and skip work. Services will be held at Temple Emanu-El, and other local synagogues.

It's customary to hand out sweets to your sweetie on Sweetest Day, October 15. A Clevelander, who worked at a candy store, go figure, created the holiday in 1922.

Pucker up those lips on October 16-it's Bosses Day.

Phew! On October 28 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis came to an end.

Head down to Waikiki to check out the elaborate, crazy and barely-there costumes on Halloween, October 31. On Maui, Lahaina's Front Street will close down to host thousands of Halloween revelers.
