Your Guide to a Great Weekend At Home in Honolulu: March 18–24, 2020

Now that COVID-19 has upended our old normal, we’re all taking a crash course in social distancing, maybe even with the family members we’re suddenly seeing a lot more of on a daily basis. In the interest of living our best life on a smaller scale, we’re pulling together some ideas for, if not the best weekend ever, a darn good week despite, well, everything.

Learn a Language or Discover a Good Local Book

Yes, the Hawai‘i State Library System branches are closed for now 😔. But you can still take an online class, find an audio book to listen to, or download a digital novel or self-help book to read on your phone.  Read more about what the library can do digitally and more here.

Local authors are also offering new pages. Choose from poetry, murder mystery or learn traditional Hawaiian uses of plants in Lā‘au Hawai‘i from the iconic and fascinating Isabella Aiona Abbott. Read about some of our seven picks here.

Have a Royal Time From Your Couch

Sure, we feel a little crushed thinking that ‘Iolani Palace canʻt welcome in-person for now. But weʻve got ways to make you feel you like you’re there. Take the virtual tour or help restore items that wandered away.

Catch Up on Hawai‘i Five-O

The new series wraps up its 10-year run a little earlier than scheduled. So before the big send off on April 7, try a CBS all-access pass to catch up. Because no one wants to watch with someone who says "Danno Who?"

Treat Yourself to Takeout

It’s a challenging time for our favorite local restaurants. We have a list of things you can do to support them, in addition to ordering a meal-to-go. And follow Frolic on Instagram to see who is now offering takeout or curbside service.
