Living walls—those artful arrangements of vertical vegetation that are all the rage in Europe—are just beginning to catch on in Hawai‘i. Sure, any green-thumbed DIYer with a knack for aesthetically composed ecosystems and stealth irrigation systems might be able engulf a wall in sedges and bromeliads. But if you want to leave it to a professional, Greg and Terri Lee of 1ST LOOK EXTERIORS have more experience making living walls in Hawai‘i than anyone. They are the team behind the living walls inside the Luxe Spa at Kāhala Mall and outside of the Whole Foods in Kailua. “They’re like living murals,” says Terri. Prices begin at around $90 per square foot.

Comfort can be hard to come by for expectant mothers in the second and third trimesters. That’s exactly why the expert team of massage therapists at the HOALA SALON AND SPA at Ala Moana Center created a specialized massage just to pamper their pregnant clients. Unlike other places where women have to lay on their sides, the pregnancy massage utilizes a set of comfy, custom cushions with the center scooped out to accommodate a growing baby bump. Clients lie face down—a rare treat—taking the weight and pressure off their bellies for full relaxation. A footbath and aromatherapy treatment are also part of the experience. (50- and 75-minute massages are $110 and $155 respectively)
