New Thing In Honolulu

The arrival of not one but two Target stores in 2009 had long-suffering devotees standing in line to get in the doors, while others less familiar with the retail juggernaut were left wondering, What’s the big deal? The answer to that, of course, is that Target sells all manner of cool, wallet-friendly stuff, such as hip housewares, affordable women’s clothing designed by the likes of Isaac Mizrahi and Rodarte, with an emphasis on design not found at other big box discount stores. Target is the ultimate adult candy store, brimming with pretty things that you didn’t know you needed. We went there recently for laundry detergent and ended up with new bedding, stemware and a cute handbag, all for less than $200. It’s the hipster Walmart. Honolulu, 4380 Lawehana St., 441-3118. Kapolei, 4450 Kapolei Pkwy. Ste. 100, 457-3679, target.com.
