By combining artistic director Thi’s coif-shaping talents with a chic interior and posh amenities, it seems that W Salon has hit upon a formula for success. “It’s the products, service and the atmosphere combined with the interior [that set us apart],” says co-owner Wendy Do. According to Do, her regulars, which comprise about 90 percent of her business, rave about the customer service, the Kerastase and Shu Uemura products, the chic, modern haircuts and colors and the salon’s shower beds—the genius solution to all those neck-cramp-inducing shampoo sinks. “At least once a day, someone says, ‘These chairs are so amazing,’” says Do. Patrons also receive a hot towel treatment and a hand massage. “The experience is what people want. Hot towels are a small thing, but people crave them,” says Do. “It’s an extra 10 minutes, but it really unwinds you.” Ala Moana Center, 943-2700, wsalonhawaii.com.

This salon has copied the services such as a hand massage & hot towel treatment from the Aveda salon & spa services offered complimentary with any hair service. The owner Thi Nguyen was a former employee there, so it is not an original idea of theirs.
