Local Role Model

Readers' Pick

Barack Obama is impressive for many reasons, but to those of us in Hawaii he’s a role model because he’s someone the kids can relate to. Before he made it to the White House, he lived in a yellow house on Kalanianaole Highway. Before he ate dinners with the world’s leaders, he ate plate lunches at Rainbow Drive-Inn. Before he was President, he was a Punahou student. It’s no shock that HONOLULU readers voted our shaka-waving commander-in-chief as the best local role model.
