The sign outside of Alicia’s Market says, “broke da mouth,” and it isn’t lying. Owner Leonard Kam (the son of the original Alicia) has developed recipes that turn regular ahi and tako poke into something magical. He also works with fish wholesalers to bring in rare treats such as Chilean abalone poke ($23.95 a pound.) All in all, Alicia’s sells more than 200 pounds of poke a day to appreciative fans. “People come here straight from the airport,” Kam says. “Sometimes I won’t see a customer for awhile, and I’ll ask them, where you been? And they’ll say, ‘prison’. It’s the first place they came after getting out.” 267 Mokauea St., 841-1921.
