Reason to Dress Up

Editors' Pick

What better reason to don a flowing ball gown or black tux than the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Ball? The folks at AHA do gala fundraisers right. Just last month the organization held its 33rd ball at the Sheraton Waikiki with more than 1,000 attendees, from political bigwigs to local celebrities and business men and women. “It’s Hawaii’s premier black-tie event and has been for years,” says Don Weisman, the AHA communications director. In addition to a night of dinner and dancing, the Heart Ball boasts a fabulous auction, with prizes such as a baby grand piano, a Makk custom portrait, a BMW, hotel stays and this year, the “live like Obamas” package, where winners hit up places the first family visits while in the Islands. Another reason to dress up? Increased cardiovascular research, and with tables ranging from $3,500 to $25,000, support is sure to come.
