Shoppers of every age will enjoy the bargains and specialties to be found in the aisle-warren that is Don Quijote—locally produced Govinda’s Ginger Rush for $2.29; Lean Cuisines for $3.59; Asian food galore—but shoppers of a certain age might also be comforted by the sometimes obscure 1980s hits that play overhead. Hearing songs by Annie Lennox, The Cars, Elvis Costello, Squeeze and more, while hunting through the crowded, almost randomly stocked shelves makes for a surreal Lost in Translation experience. Not sure what the message is—prices are so low it’s like “She Blinded Me With Science?”—but we like it. 801 Kaheka Street, 973-4800.
