Hairstylist

Editors’ Pick

At 27 years old, Alan Vuong is already the co-owner of his own salon and firmly set on Honolulu’s hot list. Just over a year ago, Vuong opened the minimalist and chic Salon Blanc with fellow stylists Mia Kim and Monica Nguyen. There you’ll find some very sharp cutting skills, plus all hair services, a facial room and one of the best restrooms in town. For Vuong, styling hair is an art form—so much so that the salon took to the stage at Level 4 nightclub recently for a show that was a mix of styling, cutting, fashion and performance. Vuong has been in the biz for 10 years and has his own devoted following—he even has clients flying in from Japan and Guam to get the Vuong vibe. One client is so happy that she tips him $400 on top of his $90 cutting charge every time she visits. Hokua Building, 1288 Ala Moana Blvd. #100, 593-2100.

Kissa Salon is still the best. Been going there since I was a little girl and he never disappoints. My friends recently went to Blanc. Honestly, it didn't look as if one of them got her hair cut at all and the other was disappointed.
