Uyeda Shoe Store

2615 S. King St.,

In its 92 years of business, Uyeda Shoe Store has evolved from a little shop on Fort Street Mall to a full-fledged shoe destination in Moiliili, with such hard-to-find, good-for-your-tootsies lines as Arcopedico and Mephisto. But some things have stayed exactly the same—the personal service, the emphasis on comfort and the antiquated cash register. “I haven’t changed this place much since we moved here [in 1957],” says owner Claire Takashima, granddaughter of founder Saijiro Uyeda. “I still have the original bamboo curtains!”
