Biologist Norton Chan started working at the Waikiki Aquarium in the late ’80s, and he still relishes the perks of his profession: “I get to work on the beach, wear a T-shirt and board shorts,” he says. “I can get wet, and it doesn’t matter. Basically, I get paid to play with fish.” Chan does more than that. He maintains several aquarium  exhibits and raises delicate sea species, including some of the only squid to be successfully raised in a public aquarium.
