Giovanni Pastrami

The sandwiches at Giovanni Pastrami are tasty, but we like the joint best for its upscale sports-bar atmosphere. With walls decorated with mosaic glass from Peru, wood-paneled walls, a well-stocked concrete bar and 17 plasma screens in heavy black frames, it feels like a fantasy bachelor pad. “During the UH football season, it was standing room only,” says marketing director Amber Rose. “People were doing the wave around the restaurant.” More into American Idol than Monday Night Football? Show up for free karaoke every Thursday, from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. “You can hide in your booth if you want, but by the end of the night, people are standing up and dancing,” Rose says.
