Top of Waikiki


Top of Waikiki is the island’s only spinning restaurant. The whole rotation system is simpler than you might think: The dining room rests on 88 hard, rubberized wheels, and is driven by a single, half-horsepower motor. Maintenance worker Roy Magarro (above) has been the one keeping things spinning smoothly for almost 44 years now, since the restaurant opened in 1965. Luckily it doesn’t take too much work; Magarro only replaces about five wheels per year.
