In the process of doing this story, we discovered a few tips for warm-weather skin survival. Sunscreen is key, of course, and don’t forget to apply it to the backs of your hands and to your neck and chest. Two good ones: Cosmedicine SPF 30 ($40), which has been rigorously tested in 90-degree heat and 80-percent humidity, and Murad SPF 30 Waterproof Sunblock ($30), which uses pomegranate as an antioxidant ingredient. If you use a self-tanner, pick up a pump bottle of St. Tropez Self-Tan Remover ($15), to get the telltale orange stain off your palms. All are available at Sephora, Ala Moana Center, 944-9797.

To keep eye shadow, lipstick and mascara from running on sultry days, try a liquid makeup sealer, such as She Laq ($28), by Benefit Cosmetics. It’s carried at Macy’s and Sephora, or online at www.benefitcosmetics.com.

A perennial favorite, and deservedly so, is Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer with SPF 15 ($40). It’s sheer and has UVA and UVB protection. A new oil-free version just came out as well. Both are available at Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center, 951-8887.
