Growing Funds
Hawaii Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development update.
Last April we covered an 8-month training program provided by the Hawaii Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development (HACBED). The nonprofit, which exists to help other nonprofits, has been especially useful to Mala Ai Opio (MAO Farms) in Waianae. With HACBED’s assistance, the organic farm recently set up Individual Development Accounts to encourage student workers to save their earnings to use toward a higher education. With money raised by local foundations, HACBED matches each dollar put into the account.
