Kauai Grill Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary

Need a good excuse to getaway to the Garden Isle this weekend?

The St. Regis Princeville will celebrate the first anniversary of the recent award-winning Kauai Grill Restaurant by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, with a five course tasting menu of 100% Hawaii-grown products on Saturday, November 13, 2010.

Chef de cuisine Colin Hazama has put together a menu to highlight farm fresh produce by Cultivate Kauai, Kauai Fresh Farms and Kunana Farms. The seafood for the “Sea To Table” culinary event will be provided by Kona Cold Lobster and Sunrise Capital located in Kekaha.

As part of the restaurant’s community outreach, Kauai Grill will donate a part of the proceeds from each dinner sold to the Waipa Foundation on the North Shore of Kaua’i. The organization is working to restore the ahupua’a of Waipa as a Native Hawaiian learning center and community center. It is currently fundraising to construct a community kitchen.

The anniversary event will showcase Chef Vongerichten’s,“ vibrant cuisine” philosophy of fresh, high-quality ingredients; flawless service; and meticulous attention to detail. The ocean themed menu includes:


Slow Cooked Big Island Abalone
Chili & Ginger
Paired with Vouvray "Les Cuvee des Fondraux" 2007 Champalou (Loire Valley, France)

First Course

Kona Hirame "Poisson Cru"
Kauai Fresh Hydroponic Watercress, Coconut Yuzu
Paired with Gruner Veltinger 2008 Loimer (Kamptal Austria)

Second Course

Kona Cold Mussels and Kekaha Shrimp
Spicy chorizo, Kula onions, basil oil
Paired with Marsanne 2006 Qupe (Santa Ynez Valley, California)

Third Course

Nut and Seed Crust, Sweet and Sour Jus
Paired with Au bon Climat Chardonnay 2004 "Nuits-Blache au Bouge" (Santa Maria Valley, California)

Main Course

Kona Cold Maine Lobster
Galangal Champagne Sabayon, Crystallized Kaffir Lime
Paired with Cloud Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (Marlborough, New Zealand)


Cultivate Baby Candy Beet Flan, Kunana Dairy Espuma
Local Citrus Shaved Ice, Toasted Macadamia Nut

As the resort’s signature restaurant, Kaua‘i Grill offers spectacular views of Hanalei Bay, and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows provide a dramatic backdrop for a menu of masterful internationally influenced cuisine.

The five course tasting menu is priced at $85 per person and with wine pairings, $130. Dinner service is from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
