Gift Ideas from Kahala Mall

Gift Ideas from Kahala Mall

Magnolia celebrates the "civilized life," says store owner Maggie Parks.

Honolulu foodies should check out the new store Magnolia, opening tomorrow at Kahala Mall. Owner Maggie Parks has assembled an impressive collection of high-quality, artisanal olive oils, including brands from Spain, Italy and California. “Spain is actually the biggest producer of olive oil; 45 percent of the world’s olive oil comes from there,” Parks says. Each variety is available to taste, because, as Parks explains, “If you’re going to pay $30 for a bottle of olive oil, you want to be sure it will work for you.” Olive oils run $20 to $40, she says.

In fact, Parks is so into olive oil, she has also stocked Magnolia with olive oil-based bath products, soaps and candles.

Culinary types will also enjoy browsing the other food goodies, such as balsamic glazes, salts, honeys, herbs and books on food and cooking. Exotic vinegars, including raspberry, pear, fig and cherry, are versatile and have a “crazy long shelf life,” says Parks.

Magnolia also specializes in European antiques, including tables, hutches and bookshelves. With perfect timing for the upcoming holidays, you’ll find plenty of gift ideas. “I carry a lot of garden-themed gifts, like seed packs, spades, gardening forks,” she says. Other gift-giving ideas include bowls, picture frames, coasters, bookends and lanterns.

The store is located in the California Pizza Kitchen wing, and yes, those blinking pagers work in the store, Parks says. So, it’s the perfect place to browse while you are waiting for your table.

Oil. Slick!
